CLASS LEVELS
NOTE: Please be honest in your assessment of your class level when registering.
Beginners:
You should be in this level if you are: (1) new to dancing; (2) have never taken balboa before irregardless of your level in other dances; or (3) if you cannot dance comfortably in and out of the five basic balboa fundamentals (break time, come around, lollies, toss out and crossovers).
Intermediate and Advanced *
* Level tests suck! However, they are a necessary evil to preserve the overall integrity of the class level.
Therefore, we are asking both Intermediate and Advanced registrants to audition for the Advanced level this year in order to maintain a consistent skill level and class ratio. Best case scenario...you get bumped up to Advance. Worst case scenario...you stay in Intermediate which will still be challenging.
If you are an Advanced balboa dancer, there is an opportunity for you to opt out of the level test by listing your previous class placements at other balboa events in the box designated on the Registration page. You will be notified in a separate email if you are exempt.
Intermediates - You should be able to: (1) comfortably lead and/or follow the 5 fundamental steps of balboa (break timing, come around, lollies, throw out and crossovers; and (2) dance some footwork variations and combine other balboa moves.
Advanced - You should be able to: (1) add musicality to your balboa; (2) dance more complicated moves and combinations; and (3) have above-average technique.
